So as we embark in these dark times... One may ask how do you keep motivation to work out, eat healthy, to take some self love time. That my friends is a loaded question. I myself, have had such a hard time this year staying motivated to workout. At first, it was simple. I was meeting with the girls from F45, and by 2 pm I was running two to three miles. I meal prepped, planned my every meal, and I felt like I was leading the way to my best life... So what happened? I simply lost motivation! It was a lot of things that lead to this.. From a tumultuous relationship, not being able to hangout with friends as frequently as I would've liked, to feeling lonely, to having anxiety. I ATE MY FEELINGS. I'm the type of chick that's all in or all out NO IN BETWEEN. SO if I fall off the healthy horse trust me I will FALL OFF the healthy horse and eat anything and everything I want. I sometimes wonder if anyone else has that same mentality or if it's just this girl over here. This isn't some sap story about how I lost my motivation and lost my way. This is gonna be my come back story. As this is my journey. My weight loss journey! So, I have asked numerous people what has helped them stay motivated through out this pandemic? The answers are simple?! "How bad do you want it?" "Helps me with my depression and anxiety?" "I feel more energetic after the hard workouts" "Everyday is one step closer to my goals and one step farther away from my past!" Each person has a set routine... So here are some steps I have been told work! Step 1: meal prep Sundays this is perfect for you to jump start you week. You wont have to think about what you're going to eat. You will have less urge to break your healthy lifestyle and not cave in so easily to junk food when you took the time to prepare your meals and snacks! Step 2: Take your rest days!
This is a no brainer especially if you work out Monday through Friday and sometimes Saturday. Your body needs time to recoup. To not burnout! It's totally okay to have Avocado toast whilst watching all of "how to get away with murder" on Netflix.
Step 3: Buy cute clothes that make you feel good!
What?! Yes I said it.. "TREAT YO SELF" I bought Fabletics workout clothes and that has motivated me to want to workout and feel good about myself.
Step 4: Stretch
This is essential! All those workouts mean hard work on those muscles and they need the stretches to prevent injury.
Step 5: find workouts that appeal to you!
So for me F45 is where its at! From the rap to the weights to the team feeling its the energy I crave. There are other classes that appeal to me though such as soul cycle, dance classes, kick boxing... Anything that keeps my body stay active..
Step 6: Learn to love your body
This was my toughest lesson. I still struggle with. It's true. You have to love your own body and feel confident in it. Nobody can work that body like you can! STRUT YOUR STUFF. If you have little rolls that's okay! Nobody is perfect!
Step 7: Drink LOTS OF WATER
I like to have iced water with lemon and cucumber. It's so refreshing! I also got a hydro jug which I absolutely love. It is huge but worth it. It has times so that you drink your water throughout the day!
Step 8: get your shit together the day before
If your anything like me.. I try to find any reasons to not go at times. But if I lay out my workout clothes, my socks, my towel, my gloves, my headphones, my shoes then it makes it so easy to just get up and go..
Step 9: You time
Whatever things you enjoy don't take that out of your routine. Learn to en corporate it to your daily routine. For me, I thoroughly enjoy writing my lists, journaling, coloring, tending to my plants, and drinking my coffee. So while I'm drinking my coffee I take about 30 min to 45 min to give myself that time to do those things.
Step 10: Set realistic expectations for yourself!
The biggest part of my journey personally is that I set a goal to lose 10 pounds. Then once I reached it I set it for another 10. Then another. It kept me motivated in the long run because I was meeting those expectations I set up for myself. I have friends at the gym who have PERFECT bodies but I never compare myself to them because we each have journeys to embark.
There it is... Simple. I hope this helps you as much as it helps me!
I would love for you to email me or dm me with any questions you may have! Also, if you have tips I didn't mention let me know!
Peace & much Love YALL
